If you’ve ticked The Handmaid’s Tale, Mindhunter and the latest season of Game of Thrones off your binge-watching list, here’s another show for you.
Alias Grace, based on the critically acclaimed novel by Margaret Atwood, drops on Netflix on November 3. We guarantee you’ll be hooked.
The miniseries tells the story of young Irish immigrant and domestic servant Grace Marks, who is convicted of a brutal double homicide.
The show’s star, Sarah Gadon, has spoken out about the “gruelling” experience of shooting Alias Grace.
“It was really intense, and there’s no other way to describe it,” Gadon told E! News.
“Everything from the way that I got the part through auditioning to the prep we did to the actual shooting, which was grueling, to the six weeks of voiceover that we did after shooting, everything about it was really intense. I didn’t really sleep when we shot it. It was a full on experience.”
Gadon also told Variety she relished playing a complexly drawn female character.
“When I read this, I said ‘This is the most complicated, intelligent, difficult job I have ever been presented with, so I should chase it!’ she explained. “I’m really grateful for that opportunity because I know they’re few and far between.”
A huge reason this series is set to be a winner? It’s written and produced by Sarah Polley, the Canadian talent behind Stories We Tell, Away From Her and Take This Waltz. And it’s directed by American Psycho’s Mary Harron.
