So, you know how Daenerys Targaryen keeps reiterating that her dragons are the only children she’ll ever have?
Well, fans aren’t so convinced with a new theory saying the mother of dragons will become a mother of an actual child before Game of Thrones ends.
Last episode, Dany’s infertility was brought up no less than three times – once by Tyrion, once by Dany herself, and once Jorah when speaking to Jon Snow.
Dany has been convinced she can’t have children since season one when she asked a healer to use blood magic to save her husband, Khal Drogo.
She sacrificed her horse for the ceremony – as “only death pays for life” – but her unborn child also died.
When she asked the healer, Mirri Maz Duur, when Khal Drogo would be back to normal, the witch replied: “When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.”
Daenerys has since believed she couldn’t be mother to any children, other than her three dragons, however, a fan theory says that the prophecy could mean something different and that the words aren’t actually about Drogo returning to life, but rather about the fact she will find love again – and get knocked up in the process.
A Reddit user pointed out that with this in mind, Dany’s vision in the House of the Undying takes on new meaning.
In the vision, she walks through the destroyed throne room of the Red Keep while it’s snowing outside. She reaches out to touch the throne but instead, turns away. Dany then reappears north of the Wall, where she sees Drogo and Rhaego, but chooses to leave her son and husband behind.
This vision matches closely with Dany’s journey this season, and, in particular, with Episode 6. She is so close to sitting on the Iron Throne but has turned away to help Jon fight the Night King. She journeyed north of the Wall, where she had to leave behind a man she loves, Jon Snow, and a child, her dragon Viserion.
Thankfully, Jon survives and returns to her, making fans think that Mirri Maz Duur’s prophecy is going to be fulfilled.
After all, Game of Thrones is a song of ice and fire, people.
