A dispute over groceries is believed to be what led to the death of two year old Jamil Baskerville Jr. in New Jersey.
Police say the child became upset after 24-year-old Zachary Tricoche pushed his mother, and he started to cry.
The Courier Post reports that that Tricoche started attacking the boy, punching him so hard he flew into a wall.
During a court hearing, Camden County Assistant Prosecutor Christine Shah said that the man then ordered the toddler to “put his hands up,” and “that he should form a boxing stance to fight this full-grown man,” NJ.com reported.
Tricoche then hit the boy again before he fell and hit his head, leaving him unconscious.
The mother reportedly called police around 11:30 pm and the child was pronounced dead at Cooper University Hospital around 12am.
Tricoche has been charged with murder and is currently being held on $1 million bail.
