Margot Robbie Is Fed Up Of People Asking When She’s Having Children

"I’m so angry that there’s this social contract"

Margot Robbie wants people to stop asking her – or any woman – about when they’re getting pregnant. The Oscar-nominated actress, who is on a press tour promoting her new film Mary, Queen Of Scotts, says she finds herself fielding baby questions from reporters every day.

“It made me really angry,” she told the Radio Times, speaking of the pressure on her character, Queen Elizabeth l, to reproduce.“How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can’t do when it comes to motherhood or my own body?”

“I got married and the first question in almost every interview is, ‘Babies? When are you having one?’ Robbie, who wed British film producer Tom Ackerly in December 2016, continued.

“I’m so angry that there’s this social contract. You’re married, now have a baby. Don’t presume. I’ll do what I’m going to do.”

Moreover, at the heart of it, asking women about their reproductive plans is sexist. As New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern famously put it, when does a man ever get quizzed publically on his plans to start a family? The experience of parenthood is not unique to women, yet the question almost always falls on us.

For the record, Margot has her plate plenty full right now – she and Ackley have their own production company Lucky Chap. “I wasn’t seeing many scripts where I wanted to play the female role — I always wanted to play the male role,” she revealed. “So I was like, ‘Well, we’ll start making our own films because we can’t just sit around forever and wait for them to come along.’”

One more time for the people in the back, Margot.
