So given Meghan Markle’s background in philanthropy and her work as an advocate for UN Women, it’s unsurprising that she wants to use her new position to make a difference in the world. ASAP. But according to reports, the mum-to-be is encountering a few roadblocks inside the palace.

An insider has told People that the 37-year-old – who has long been outspoken in supporting gender equality and female empowerment – is frustrated with being told “no” to many of her ideas.

“The palace is a magical place, and it is also a place where all you hear is ‘no, no, no,’” the source said of royal protocol.

“The most difficult job in the royal family is to work with Meghan’s ambitions and make them realisable. She will get frustrated if she is told, ‘You can’t do this or can’t do that.'”

The insider also revealed that veteran royal aides “might not be used to the ‘say-it-as-you-see-it’ American mentality”, which is causing tension.

The Duchess of Sussex is yet to reveal which patronages she will be backing. Her first solo project was spearheading a community kitchen cookbook to support victims of the Grenfell Tower blaze, an move which was seen by some as “slightly radical”.
