Baden Bond was just 22-months-old when he disappeared form his Woodridge home in Brisbane in March 2007.
Baden was not reported missing until last year after a judge presiding over a separate matter involving the family, asked about the whereabouts of the boy.
According to News Corp his parents claimed Baden had gone to live with relatives, however authorities were never able to verify their story with no records of his schooling or medical history being reported since 2007.
Police later conducted a search of the Woodridge property, which the family moved out of six months after Baden’s disappearance. Bones were found and are currently being examined to determine if they are human and if they belong to Baden.
“We are treating this as a homicide,” Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said during a public appeal for information on the case.
He added that the boy’s family had given police a “number of versions”, none of which led to them to Baden.
“They’ve given us versions that he is with relatives, he is with other people. Certainly all our investigations have proved negative.”
“He is not in the care of DOCS, we have searched every possible location for Baden.”
The couple have now been taken into custody, with police confirming Baden was likely murdered. They are expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
