Kiernan Shipka Will Star In The ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ Reboot

From the team behind 'Riverdale'

UPDATE: Everything old is new again seems to be the motto in Hollywood and TV land lately, with more reboots hitting our screens than ever before.

The latest TV show to be reincarnated? Bubbly ‘90s comedy series Sabrina, the Teenage Witch is being developed — and this time with a much darker twist.

As Deadline reports, the series is inspired by the Archie Comics series The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, and will be seen as a companion piece to Netflix’s Riverdale.

And now, the new Sabrina has been cast, and we’re pretty stoked with the choice. Kiernan Shipka, known for playing Sally Draper on Mad Men, will take on the iconic role.

“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said, E! reports.

The show features the same creative team behind Riverdale and puts a chilling horror spin on Sabrina’s supernatural backstory, rather than taking the whacky animatronic cat approach (as much as we loved Salem).

According to the CW Network, the series “reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft.”

“Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit,” the log line continues.

If the project gets the green light, you can expect to see the one-hour drama in 2018-19.

At the top of our list of questions about the series: will Melissa Joan Hart get a cameo? Here’s hoping.
