Selena Gomez has joined the ranks of Emma Stone, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively and Cate Blanchett, who have all worked with controversial American director Woody Allen.
And many fans are not happy.
Gomez will star in an untitled Allen project, alongside Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet, EW reports.
A dark shadow was cast over Allen’s illustrious career following allegations that he molested his adopted stepdaughter, Dylan Farrow, in 1992.
In 2014, Farrow wrote a heartbreaking open letter that said Allen abused her when she was seven years old at Mia Farrow’s Connecticut home. She also called out actress Cate Blanchett for starring in Allen’s Blue Jasmine, which won her an Oscar.
“What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson? You knew me when I was a little girl, Diane Keaton. Have you forgotten me?,” Farrow wrote.
This year, Gomez was a driving force behind the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, which tackled the repercussions of sexual assault.
The actress’s decision to join Allen’s film—in light of the abuse allegations—was called out on Twitter:
The claims against Allen were investigated in 1993, but prosecutors did not press charges. The director denies the abuse ever took place.
