If you live in Lebanon and you’ve been looking forward to seeing the new cinematic superhero spectacle that is DC Comic’s Wonder Woman, we have some bad news for you.
All screenings of the film that were slated for the silver screen in Lebanon have been cancelled.
Just hours before it was set to appear in theatres, the Lebanese government announced that it would be banned because the film’s main star, Gal Gadot, is Israeli.
The leading lady had also previously served in the Israeli Defence Force (pretty bad-ass, if you ask us).
It’s always sad when pop culture gets caught up in politics – but the longstanding tension between Lebanon and Israel has proven to be too deeply entrenched this time around.
The film has been quick to earn widespread critical acclaim and is currently out in cinemas in Australia.
