Vanessa Hudgens recorded an Instagram Story that has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. In the clip, the High School Musical alum claimed the possibility of self-quarantine until July was "bullshit" and that the possibility of hundreds (if not thousands) of deaths was "inevitable".
Watch the clip below:
"'Til July sounds like a bunch of bullshit, I'm sorry," she told her fans. "But, like, it's a virus, I get that, I respect that. Even if everybody gets it, like, yeah, people are gonna die, which is terrible. But like, inevitable? I don't know. Maybe I shouldn't be doing this right now."
Twitter uses were quick to judge the comments, labelling them "damaging", "heartless" and "insensitive".
After the backlash, Hudgens posted a statement on her Instagram Story explaining that the clip that is circulating is being taken out of context.
“Hey guys, so yesterday, I did an Instagram Live and I realised today that some of my comments are being taken out of context. It’s a crazy time, a crazy crazy time. And I am at home and in lockdown and that’s what I hope you guys are doing too. In full quarantine and staying safe and sane,” she said. “I don’t take this situation lightly by any means. I am home.”
She concluded with, “So stay inside ya’ll.”
