The Jet Set’s Arrival Into Venice Proves That Airport Dressing Is Back

They’re flying first class, up in the sky.

The celebrity style set were clearly swayed by Fergie and Jack Harlow’s performance of “Glamorous x First Class” at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this week because their stylish arrival into Venice is just that.

Ahead of the upcoming Venice Film Festival, an elite list of A-listers including Julianne Moore and Jodie Turner descended on the floating city for an all out affair of fashion, film and focaccia across the palazzos, canals and lagoons.

However, it’s not just the red carpet on the Venetian isle of Lido that will play host to some of the most illustrious and perennially stylish members of the celebrity style set.

As it turns out, Venice’s international airport makes for great street style watching as well. The international fashion runways are shaking, because the airport tarmac is where it’s at.

With travel slowly returning to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s refreshing to see that the jet set glitterati are petitioning for a triumphant return of airport dressing.

Long gone are the days of Naomi Campbells’ PPE and hazmat suit-esque ensemble when flying, although hand sanitisers and antibacterial wipes are still a must.

Now, a new era of full glam at the flight gate is being ushered in—when they’re not flying first class of course.

A cultural reset.

The images are evocative of the iconic photos of the 1970s high society landing at the terminal in outfits that would have easily been seen on the runway of the time, with a fresh and modern injection, of course.

Leading the charge is British model Jodie Turner-Smith, arriving in a sheer, saccharine pant suit.

The sorbet-hued chiffon blazer and trouser combinations is not only signalling sunnier times are ahead, but are promising that Venice Film Festival will be anything but basic.

The Casablanca creation, from the French labels Spring/Summer 2022 collection, could not be more fitting for the occasion—panache, frivolous and flirty, the perfect combination for a week long affair of art and culture.

Keeping with the vintage aesthetic, Turner-Smith completed her ensemble with a jacquard Gucci carry-all and tote bag. Glamorous.

Thor star Tessa Thompson also brought the sartorial thunder (and love) with a mesh Victoria Beckham ensemble.

With the likes of Harry Styles, Timothée Chalamet and Cate Blanchett set to jet in for the premiere of their upcoming films, Venice’s Marco Polo airport is certainly the one to watch.
