Kristen Bell Confirms A ‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Is On The Way

Hide the evidence, Mars is back on the case

When the final episode of teen noir mystery series Veronica Mars aired in 2007 after three must-see seasons, there was a collective sigh around TV screens. This detective teen drama just had something that really hooked you. Maybe it was the stellar acting by lead Kristen Bell who played high school student/private investigator Veronica Mars, or maybe it was the sleuth angle – who doesn’t love a good mystery?

Whatever the reason, it proved its staying power when Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas co-wrote a script for a film adaptation set nine years after the cult TV show finished and through a Kickstarter funding campaign launched by Thomas and Kristen Bell, raised an astonishing amount of funding to get the movie made. The Veronica Mars film was released in 2014 and was a huge hit with fans.

And the studios took note, with confirmation that a revival of the Veronica Mars show is on the way with key original cast and crew back on board, including series creator Rob Thomas and lead actress Kristen Bell.

“Veronica has always been a super hero without a Cape. And I think shes exactly what the world needs right now,” Bell wrote on Instagram, confirming the rumoured reboot.

Developed by Hulu, the new Veronica Mars will join a slew of TV shows getting the revival treatment including The Hills, Will & Grace, Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Frasier.

Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars in the Veronica Mars TV show

Since playing Veronica Mars, 38-year-old Bell has been incredibly busy voicing Anna in Disney’s mammoth blockbuster animated film Frozen and forthcoming Frozen 2, starring in black comedy The Good Place with Ted Danson, getting married to actor Dax Shepard and starting a family (the couple have two children together, Delta Bell Shepard and Lincoln Shepard).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, reprising her role as Veronica Mars will not interfere with any of Bell’s other filming commitments including her role on The Good Place.

The series will consist of 8 episodes and is slated to debut in 2019. No news yet on what time period the show will be set in, but considering 38-year-old Bell is unlikely to return as a high school-aged PI, it’s a fairly safe bet it will pick up where the movie adaptation left off, around ten or so years after high school.
