Apart from the royal family itself, Victoria and David Beckham are as famously British as it gets—so it’s unsurprising that they’ve made some of the most memorable tributes to the Queen in the wake of her passing.
Over the weekend, the football legend surprised and thrilled fans after joining the infamous queue, which saw some members of the public line up for up to 24 hours to glimpse the coffin of the Queen as she lay in state at Westminster Hall.
While Beckham lined up for 12 hours—which was still considerably less than others, his gesture was lauded by royal watchers and football fans alike.
“We all want to be here together, we all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen and I think something like this today is meant to be shared together,” Beckham told the BBC from the line.
As he entered the quiet hall, Beckham was noticeably emotional as he waited his turn to stand before the coffin. As he finally reached it, he stopped for a brief moment before moving on with the rest of the queue.
“Big respect to him, he’s stood with us and he’s paid his respects how he wants to,” one woman commented.
Another tweeted: “Always knew David Beckham was a good guy but the respect he has shown to both the British people and the Royal Family by joining the queue and then quietly paying his respects to the Queen. What a man!!”
The death of the history-making monarch clearly hit the Beckham family hard—Victoria also made several public tributes to the Queen following the initial announcement confirming her passing.
The night before her funeral, Victoria posted three striking photos of the Queen with the caption: “I’ve spent the last week reflecting on the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and how she was a powerful source of inspiration not just for me, but for so many around the world.
“The ultimate icon in every way and the epitome of elegance, she will live on in our hearts and minds forever. I offer my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family at this time, and we join them in mourning the loss of our beloved Sovereign. VB.”
Victoria also took to her Instagram Stories to share more pictures of the Queen along with some more poignant anecdotes.
She called the Monarch the “epitome of elegance”, a “remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother”, and added one of her “proudest Spice Girls moments” when she met the Queen at the Royal Command Performance in 1997.
“I’m so grateful for this memory,” she said.
The Beckhams have long been tied to the British royals (acquaintance-wise). Posh and Becks famously attended the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan back in 2018, as well as Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales back in 2011.
No doubt they will be watching on as the funeral takes place tonight where they’ll pay their respects.
