Here Are The Victorian-Based Businesses To Support During The State’s Current Lockdown

Shop, support and share the local community

Times are uncertain right now, and while we don’t know what tomorrow holds we can be certain that supporting the local Australian businesses that might be doing it tough right now, will see us through. Whether you show your support by sharing a favourite local brand on social media or are continually shopping from your go-to local restaurant, every bit helps when bolstering the community on our very doorsteps. 

Following Victoria’s stage four lockdowns, we made a call to marie claire’s Instagram followers to share their favourite Victorian business – from food to fashion. We collated the list so you can shop, support and share the local businesses who have once again, had to pivot amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fashion

ELK – a pioneer of independent Australian design, ELK creates conscious design with a focus on well made and durable pieces. The brand’s goal is to use 100 per cent environmentally preferred materials by 2025.

Sara Sidari – a Melbourne based designer and artist creating illustrations and artworks reflecting the textures and colours of her home country of Italy. 

Justice Denim – ethically made jeans made in Melbourne that implements a zero-waste model. Every pair of denim purchased funds one month of life-changing education. 

Casa Amuk – 100 per cent Pima Cotton basics and core garments born and designed in Melbourne. 

Elso Jewellery – sustainable, ethical and handcrafted art and jewellery. The brand donates $5 from every purchase to support important projects. 

Douglas & Hope – an online store with a range of products, from reusable face masks, pot plants to apparel. 

ULO – made-to-order African wax collections which bring colour to your wardrobe and home. The brand also produces reusable face masks. 

Bon Voyage Collections – an Aussie accessories company stocking everything from gold chains to statement earrings. 

Stones & Silver – offering up on-trend and high-quality jewellery at an affordable price, best known for their stunning .925 sterling silver and gemstone pieces. 

Scandi Heart – Scandinavian homewares, including a stunning selection of Gotland sheep rugs. 

Cottage Industry – a curated space featuring work designed and made in the teams Fitzroy studio, as well as products sourced from around the world.

Primness – an apparel collection of straight-forward silhouettes that combine premium natural fabrics and finishes.

Aimee Cherie Intimates – made up of crushingly cool and relaxed intimates, the brand is committed to ethical and sustainable practices. 

Misko – sculptural jewellery handcrafted in Melbourne. Designer Ele also creates luxury custom wedding and engagement pieces with sourced rare gems. 

Catherine Murphy – purposefully made garments using locally retained skills, available materials and industry networks. 

People Store – the brainchild of a fashion-conscious family that saw a shift in the streetwear industry, this store offers a diverse selection.  

Ena Pelly – a sustainable, thoughtfully curated apparel brand for the modern Australian wardrobe, mixing minimalism with an effortlessly cool edge.  

Olivia Ware Jewellery – a contemporary jeweller creating individually designed and handcrafted pieces in her Preston studio using both traditional and contemporary forms of fabrication. 

Revel Knitwear – handmade knitwear with a focus on quality, ethical and sustainable production. 

Variety Hour Studio – a Melbourne made fashion label helmed by textile designer Cassie Byrnes.

Lil’ Mr – this Melbourne-based label creates the cutest and most on-trend kids streetwear. 

SISTER Studios – a womenswear label created sustainably in Brunswick using natural fibres such as linen, cotton and dead stock.

Beurre Cakes – based in Melbourne, Beurre specialises in creative and delicious cakes, dessert tables and all the sweet things you need in your life. 

The Candy Buffet Company – fulfil your sweet tooth with a delivery from this family-owned company, which has everything from doughnuts to chocolate. 

Bio Living – a one-stop-shop for all your health food needs, offering up premium organic, gluten-free and gourmet products.

Fowles Wine – located in the rugged and beautiful Strathbogie Ranges, this family vineyard has a range of wines including Riesling, Vermentino, Sangiovese and Mouvedre.

Neighbourhood Books – an independent bookstore curated to nourish the local community, featuring a range of fiction, non-fiction and children’s books, prioritising local writers, artists and publishers. 

Bobby Clarke – crafted in her Thornbury studio, artist Bobby Clarke creates artworks that explore symmetry and balance. 

Baby Rush – creating adorable pieces for bubs, each purchase gives back to mums in need through PAMDAA (Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia). 

Amanda Krantz – a local artist creating originals and prints described as “organic-psychedelia.” 

Petite Maison – creating imaginative and stimulating play pieces for children, that fit into smaller spaces, pack away easily, and will become a treasured and personalised part of each child’s toy collection.
