Victoria’s Secret Model Kelly Gale Says They Were Locked In A Hotel For 5 Days

"We were not allowed to leave"

When Victoria’s Secret chose to host their annual fashion show in Shanghai in an attempt to break into the Chinese market, the brand had no idea of the impact it would have on their runway extravaganza.

Just days before the show, four models were denied their visas due to their nationality. Supermodel of the moment, Gigi Hadid, then announced she could no longer attend, reportedly also being denied a visa because of a racist video posted to social media earlier this year.

But that’s not all. Katy Perry, who was set to perform alongside Harry Styles and Miguel, was also denied entry into China because she wore a sunflower dress while performing in Taiwan (seemingly supporting the independence of the country).

Now Australian Victoria’s Secret model Kelly Gale has revealed that there were, even more, hiccups behind-the-scenes.

“Everything was different in China,” Gale told news.com.au.

“We were not allowed to leave the hotel, we were in lock down for five days for safety reasons.

“They [security] couldn’t guarantee our safety,” she continued.

“I could understand why we couldn’t leave [the hotel],” Gale said, saying the restrictions left her and the other models frustrated.

“[While in lock down] there were a lot of sessions at the gym … the spa. We played cards and games … and just came up with new things to do.”

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs on Channel Nine at 9pm tomorrow – Wednesday 29th November.
