In a world of uncertainty, reboots are key, it appears. Over the past year alone, an ever-growing revival to-watch list includes the likes of Sex And The CityGossip Girl, and even a Harry Potter reunion

So what’s the next nostalgic play on the trending television revival bandwagon? Only a Netflix Addams Family spin-off, self-titled after one of its key characters—Wednesday.

The show will centre around the mysterious daughter of Gomez and Morticia. Played by Christina Ricci in the 1991 film, the lead role has since been assigned to a just-as-perfect up-and-coming actress.

Here, we look at everything you need to know about Netflix’s upcoming series, Wednesday—including a brand new trailer.

What will Netflix’s Wednesday be about?

As you can likely guess, the narrative explores one of the key members of the fictional Addams Family, Wednesday. But she’s not the only one bringing her dark flair to the screen. Expect to see familiar characters including Mortia and Gomez, as well as Wednesday’s brother Pugsley.

Per Netflix, the show will be a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.”

In the eight-part series, a violent killing spree in the local town will incite Wednesday to attempt to master her psychic abilities and thwart the terrorisers.

All the while, Wednesday will try to “solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Who is in the cast of Wednesday?

The iconic role of Wednesday, formerly depicted by Christina Ricci will go to 18-year-old up-and-comer Jenna Ortega, who also starred in chilling Netflix series, You as well as black comedy horror film, The Babysitter: Killer Queen.

Deadline has also confirmed that the original Wednesday, Christina Ricci, will be returning to the Addams universe for the upcoming project.

While it’s been revealed that she won’t be returning as an older version of the character, news about the her role has been kept firm under wraps.

The publication also shared that Ricci has replaced fellow 90s starlet Thora Birch, who exited the series halfway through production because of “personal reasons”.

Reports claim that Ricci will be playing a role similar to Birch’s: Wednesday’s dorm mother at Nevermore Academy. While Ricci hasn’t been recast as Birch’s character showrunners are yet to confirm if Birch will be making an appearance in the show.

Joining her is Catherine Zeta-Jones as mum Morticia, while Luis Guzmán will star as Gomez Addams.

Directing the series is dark-twisted-drama genius Tim Burton, who’ll no doubt bring the necessary quirky spook to the series he’s so famous for.

Is there a trailer for Wednesday

Yes! In August, Netflix dropped the first trailer for the series. In it, Ortega’s talents were confirmed as she seamlessly slipped into the patronising, bullish character.

Wednesday, it seems, hasn’t changed in the 30-plus years since we last saw her—and nor has her family. Watch the full trailer at the top of the page.

When will Wednesday Addams be released in Australia?

While we’ve no official release date yet, its cast list has only just begun drip-feeding to the public. This suggests it’ll be a while yet untill we see the show drop on Netflix.

That said, some fans have speculated that October 2022 might be an apt time to release the series, Halloween anyone?
