This Is Why You Should Never Leave Your Hair Wet After A Shower

You might be damaging your tresses with even knowing it.

Sorry lazy beauty girls, we’re here to bust one of the biggest hair myths around. It turns out letting your hair air dry after you’ve washed it is causing more damage than you think.

According to Dr Tim Moore (the Australian Vice President of Smart Devices) leaving your hair wet for extended periods of time is putting excessive pressure on your strands resulting in split ends. Yikes.

Anytime your hair is wet, the individual strands swell to hold the moisture, forcing the protein structures that make up your hair to bend and even snap.

“The hair is made up of a cortex, which is the area that pulls the shape of your hair and then cuticles around the side, which are a bit like roof tiles”, Dr Moore told Yahoo 7Basically, “the hair is half as strong when it’s wet,” he added.

Concerned about heat damage from styling tools? We recommend using a towel to soak up as moisture as possible and avoid combing your strands until your hair is completely dry. Setting your hairdryer’s heat setting to low will also help keep your mane shiny and healthy.
