While we were sleeping, Kate Middleton made an official appearance opening the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. She did it wearing a vivid red Boden coat and custom peach dress, but nobody took any notice of that – because her famous engagement ring was missing.
Had the Duchess flung it off in a fit of rage? Possibly hurled it at Prince William? Lost it doing the gardening? The mind boggles.
But no. According to People, the Duchess was simply obeying hospital protocol, which asks that only minimal jewellery be worn while visiting. While most people’s engagement rings would make the cut, Kate Middleton’s whopping 12-carat sapphire, surrounded by 14 dazzling diamonds, does not.
She was, however, still wearing her simple gold wedding band.
