Since on-again-off-again-and-then-definitely-off couple Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber recently rekindled their romance, the world has looked on in horror – and confusion. How could Gomez, 25, take Bieber, 23, back, knowing that he frequently cheated on her?
The answer, as it turns out, is pretty simple – and completely understandable. Gomez and Bieber were each other’s first loves.
Together for three years, they started dating when Bieber was just 17 and Gomez was 19, after their mums set them up on a date.
Bieber even likened their relationship to a marriage. In an interview with Complex., he revealed, “I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her. It was a marriage kind of thing.”
“We were so in love. Nothing else mattered,” he continued.
According to People, Bieber “will always have a special place in [Selena’s] heart” and she’s tried multiple times to make it work since they broke up in 2014. “She’s always held out hope that one day the circumstances and timing would be right.”
“They’re having a great time together,” they added.” Neither are seeing anyone else and they seem happy to leave it at this for now. Spending time together makes them both very happy. For Justin, no one ever came close to comparing to Selena. He always thoughts she was the most special and now seems mature enough to realize Selena deserves the best.”
