The trailer for Steve McQueen’s new film Widows has dropped, and boy, it’s a goodie.
In it, Viola Davis unites with Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo and Australia actress Elizabeth Debicki to form an all-female robbery crew after they’re criminal husbands’ were killed on the job.
Set in Chicago, the film is based on the British miniseries of the same name and the screenplay was co-written by 12 Years a Slave director McQueen and Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn.
Widows also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya and Australia icon Jacki Weaver.
In the hard hitting trailer, Davis declares, “Our husbands aren’t coming back. We’re on our own. They stole a lot of money and now people want it from us. Now, the best thing we have going for us is being who we are.”
Rodriguez asks, “Why?”
“Because no one thinks we have the balls to pull this off.” Oh, damn.
You know what we’ll be doing for the next 177 days – counting down until Widows hits cinemas on November 29.
