The boyfriend of a young woman who was found dead in Sydney’s west has pleaded not guilty to breaching an apprehended domestic violence order.
21-year-old Max Spencer had his first mention in court today did not apply for bail, 9NEWS reports.
Police were called to a home in Kingswood just after midnight on Sunday and discovered the body of 21-year-old Hayley Mcclenahan-Ernst. It is understood the woman had two children and was pregnant at the time of her death.
Mr Spencer’s lawyer, Ben Archbold, said his client alleges Ms Mcclenahan-Ernst had “fallen over and hit her head”.
“Obviously the police have got an ongoing investigation and we’ll just deal with things as they arise,” Mr Archibold said.
Yesterday Superintendent Greg Peters told the Sydney Morning Herald that Ms Spencer’s cause of death was not yet known.
“We will no doubt wait until the body is conveyed to the Sydney mortuary, sometime this morning, and then we have to wait for the results of a post mortem … At this stage I am unable to say what the injuries are,” he said.
Friends of Ms McClenahan-Ernst told The Daily Telegraph the young woman would be greatly missed.
“She was a beautiful treasured young mother, she was too caring, she was a great mother and her daughters loved their mum so, so much,” Sarah Nevaeh Steven said.
“I’ll miss her tremendously and my children will miss their aunty Hayley.”
