Ashton Kutcher is officially headed back to his rom-com roots, and it’s all thanks to Reese Witherspoon.
It has been 10 years since the That ’70s Show alum was the Hollywood heartthrob behind the early ’00s romantic comedy genre, having starred in unforgettable roles in Just Married, What Happens In Vegas and New Year’s Eve. But since then, Kutcher has chosen to exclusively work on TV projects since 2014.
Now, Deadline reports that the 43-year-old is planning to lead in Reese Witherspoon’s upcoming Netflix original,Your Place or Mine.
The romantic film will see Kutcher and Witherspoon playing “best friends who live on opposite coasts [and] swap homes for a week and see their whole lives change,” à la Amanda and Iris in The Holiday, per Deadline.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the scribe from The Devil Wears Prada, is the screenplay writer, and will also make her feature directorial debut with the Netflix original.
As for Witherspoon, whose company Hello Sunshine is co-producing the project, is making waves both in front of and behind the camera. Not only has she recently announced the creation of Legally Blonde 3, she has also been producing and starring in The Morning Show.
When it comes to Kutcher, he has been starring on Netflix’s The Ranch and pouring his energy into his investments and philanthropies, all while raising his two children with his wife, Mila Kunis.
The couple were recently in hot water over their confession of how often they bathe their children, while appearing on Dax Sheppard’s podcast, Armchair Expert.
The pair explained thatthey choose to not overwash their kids, ensuring they wash only when they look dirty.
“Now, here’s the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point,” Kutcher revealed.
Currently, there is no release date for Your Place Or Mine, but in the meantime, Netflix offers plenty of rom-coms to fill the void in our hearts until then.
