Zimmermann’s Dreamy New Collection Is Like A Chic Spy Uniform

Zimmermann knows best!

As our go-to for parties, weddings and places where pretty things are welcomed, Zimmermann has grown a serious cult following among Australian women for its breezy, easy and downright gorgeous statement pieces. So it only makes sense that it’s one of the shows we look forward to most every New York fashion week.

Showing at spring studios in Manhattan overnight, designer Nicky Zimmermann looked to famous spy Nancy Wake for inspiration. The result? A collection packed with the brand’s signature whimsy, but with a surefire dose of secrecy and drama.

“For me, the work of a spy evoked a mood of subterfuge and sabotage. And [the story of Wake] really set off my imagination – a mysterious and brave woman, a chameleon who moves around in secrecy, strong and resilient, always so evasive so as never to be caught. I loved the idea of such a feminine, skillful and selfless figure – a woman who helped people in the most difficult of circumstances,” Zimmermann told marie claire.

The collection is an ode to all things feminine and strong, showing hardened chains alongside soft florals, and vice versa with corsets and leathers. Voluminous silhouettes are a nod to the 80s, but are made fresh through the use of supple fabrics and billowing, contemporary patterns. In other words, dresses, pants and tops made for women who know who they are.

We’ve rounded up our favourite looks from the show, which will be available in stores later this year. Can you tell we’re already counting down?
