When little Mason Lee was found dead in a Caboolture home on June 11, paramedics and police were seen sobbing in the street at what they had just witnessed.
Something no one should ever have to experience.
However the mystery surrounding 21-month-old Mason’s death remains unsolved as police andinvestigators continue to pievce together the tragic last days of his little life.
“He suffered extensive injuries, they were horrific and they were visible from head to toe,” Detective Acting Inspector Ben Fadian told media on Monday following the results of an autopsy that revealed the boy had suffered both old and new injuries, reports The Courier Mail.
“While we are awaiting the pathology results, we can say Mason may have been sick or injured for up to a week before he died.”
“There were some Triple 0 calls received that night at about 12.30am, but … we believe he may have been deceased for some time before those Triple 0 calls.”
“We believe the injuries were deliberately inflicted and deliberately caused,” he said.
Police were called to the home around 12:30am on June 11, after his stepfather, Andrew William O’Sullivan called 000.
“All the air was going in [to Mason] but nothing was coming out,” he told the Nine Network, denying any involvement in his death.
“Of course not, I loved him,” he added.
Mason’s mother, Ann-Marie Lee has also spoken out, telling Seven News she wants to know what happened to her “beautiful” and “gentle” son.
“I want answers, I want justice for my son.”
Police have spoken with some 40 witnesses so far, but are urging anyone with information or had any interaction with Mason this year to contact them.
