Meghan Markle’s best friend has spoken out about the Suits actress, and it appears that dating Prince Harry has not gone to her head.
TV producer Lindsay Roth talked to PEOPLE about her friendship with Meghan Markle, as the pair met years ago at Northwestern University in Chicago. They’ve known each other for over 15 years.
“I don’t know many people who are as generous and supportive as Meg is,” Roth says.
“I think people assume that when someone gains notoriety that they change. But she’s still the same girl I met years ago, with the same values and priorities. She’s selfless, and that’s just a part of who she is and who she was raised to be.”
Meghan Markle was even Roth’s maid of honour at her wedding, so they have kept in very close touch.
“We’re the kind of friends who can be 3,000 miles away and still be talking about or thinking the same thing, and even texting each other the same thing at the same time miles away,” Roth says.
Lindsay Roth also shared Meghan Markle’s life motto, which is a great one to live by.
“There’s a motto that Meg and I have consistently come back to throughout the years: ‘I choose happiness,’ ” says Roth. “It’s a constant reminder to be self-aware, be uniquely you, be happy and to treat people with respect; to be kind, empathetic and to really learn from those around you in any circumstance.
“Meg does that.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been publicly dating since Kensington Palace released a public statement about their relationship in November last year. But it appears she hasn’t lost her humble side.
