Its not long until Australia’s fashion industry greats descend upon Sydney for Afterpay Australian Fashion Week.

Featuring the country’s most eminent designers alongside a new and exciting generation of design talent, the week will showcase the absolute creme de la creme of the Australian fashion industry.

Fortunately, the runway shows aren’t just for people in the fashion industry and the public have access to a select number of designer shows and programming as well.

So, get our your calendar (and your wallet) and secure your tickets to fashion’s the biggest week of the year.

When Are The Dates Of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week?

Afterpay Australian Fashion Week will run from May 15 until May 19, 2023. This year, all the runway shows and events will take place at Carriageworks in Sydney.  
But if you can’t make it to one of your favourite designers, then you also will be able to virtually stream most runway shows and events at AAFW.com.au

How Do I Get To Afterpay Australian Fashion Week? 

Depending on where you’re travelling from, you make your way to Carriageworks via public transport or a private car. 

If you’re taking public transport, Carriageworks is a short walk from multiple train stations. This includes Redfern Station (eight minute walk), Macdonaldtown Station (ten minute walk) and Newtown Station (15 minute walk). 

If you opt for the bus, the following bus routes stop a five minute walk away from the event: 422, 423, 426, 428, 370, 352. 

Valet parking is also available for visitors, guests and staff for a flat rate of $44.00 (incl GST) for pre-booked (and pre-paid) per space per day or $55.00 pay-on-arrival (incl GST).

What Is Afterpay Australian Fashion Week’s Schedule?

This year’s Afterpay Australian Fashion Week will feature 45 designer runway shows and presentations, with a new focus on IMG’s Changemakers program.
The also schedule features an exciting blend of new and more established designers.

Familiar names include ALÉMAIS, Aje, Anna Quan, BEC + BRIDGE, JOSLIN, Acler and St Agni, while new names of note include Wynn Hamlyn, Maggie Marilyn and Alix Higgins.

In addition, the schedule also showcases 11 First Nations fashion designers, who will feature in the David Jones Indigenous Fashion Projects Runway, IMG’s Next Gen, We Wear Australian X Afterpay closing night show and the Ngali runway show.

What Other Events Will Be At Australian Fashion Week?

Alongside the designer runway shows, Australian Fashion Week also offers a selection of talks and seminars on subjects pertaining to the fashion industry, including:

Gender Diversity and The Fashion Industry: In conversation with Designer Jackie Wu, IMG Model Manahou Mackay and model Kai Clancy.

I Love The Nightlife: Club Culture and Fashion: In conversation with multidisciplinary artist Byron Spencer, model and casting director Basjia Almaan and Sydney queer icon Jonny Seymour moderated by fashion journalist Isabelle Truman.

New Voices in Fashion Criticism: In conversation with fashion researcher and digital creator Kim Russel and @upnextdesigner’s Albert Ayal moderated by Vogue Australia’s Jonah Waterhouse.

On Trend—Key Directions in Australian Fashion: In conversation with Net-a-Porter’s market director Libby Page, Harper’s Bazaar features and fashion news director Patty Huntington, stylist Miguel Urbina Tan, Urban List fashion editor Sammy Preston, and IMG Fashion Events and Properties Asia-Pacific’s vice president-managing director Natalie Xenita moderated by POPSUGAR publisher Amanda Bardas.

Can The Public Buy Tickets To Afterpay Australian Fashion Week?

The public can buy tickets (which are already on sale) for a select number of runway shows and events.

Tickets start at $49 for talks and seminars, and from $120 for the runway shows.

However, if you can’t make one of your favourite designers then don’t worry because most of the shows can be accessed virtually.

Can I Buy Food And Drinks At Afterpay Australian Fashion Week? 

Yes, food and drinks are available at The Hub at Carriageworks. The Hub contains the Hendrick’s Gin Parlour, Glenfiddich Whisky Wanderer and Toby Estate’s Pop Up Cafe, and is open daily between 9am to 10pm.
