Alleged Rape Victim Asked To Justify Why She Wore ‘Sexy Lingerie’ In Court

The 21-year-old student was also asked why she didn't cry out to a passerby.

A Brisbane university student has been questioned in court as to why she was wearing ‘sexy lingerie’ when she was allegedly raped on a date.

The Courier Mail reports the twenty-one-year-old met Mitchell Peggie online, and claims that he violently raped her outside a cathedral last year.

Though the pair had discussed public sex on their date, the woman says that she did not give consent, and Peggie pushed her against the cathedral and roughly groped her.

News.com.au reports that Crown Prosecutor Brendan White said on Monday that she had refused Peggie’s advances.

“She pushed him away (and) said, ‘I am not that easy, you have to work for it, I don’t have sex on the first date,’ or something like that.

“He pulled her into the wall of the cathedral (and) said words to the effect of, ‘I am working for it’.”

Peggie’s defence lawyer, Douglas Wilson, claimed that the victim is lying because she felt that Peggie didn’t treat her nicely after sex. When the woman was asked about her ‘sexy lingerie’, she replied that this was irrelevant to the case.

“No, that’s not why we are here; we are here because your client can’t keep (his penis) in his pants and doesn’t understand the word ‘no’,” she told the jury.

“It was just underwear I had in my drawer that matched. Just because I wore it doesn’t mean I wanted anyone else to see it.”

Mr Wilson even asked her, “What did you think was going to happen?”

She replied, “Just because we discussed public sex and then went for a walk doesn’t mean I gave him consent.”

The case is ongoing.
