Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy *And* Taylor Swift Join Forces In The 1930s For ‘Amsterdam’

To be honest, who isn't in 'Amsterdam'?

In Hollywood, star-studded films are hardly difficult to come by. In fact, Greta Gerwig and Quentin Tarantino have made their entire directorial career out of it. Why? Well, because audiences love to see their favourites all come together for a feature flick.

And now, there’s a new A-list ensemble movie ready to add to the list, thanks to director David O. Russell.

The American Hustle and Joy director’s latest project, Amsterdam, and it’s here to tickle every mystery-lovers fancy with a delectable plot and famous faces lining up the cast list.

Set in the early 20th Century, Amsterdam looks to be an action-packed period film that will get audience’s searching for a culprit á la Agatha Christie’s entire resume. The film isn’t even out yet and it has already stirred up commotion for its jam-packed cast, including the likes of Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy and Taylor Swift.

Curious? We don’t blame you. Below, everything we know (so far) about Amsterdam—from the plot to the rest of the cast and release date.

Amsterdam

What is Amsterdam about?

In the film’s trailer, Amsterdam boasts that “a lot of this actually happened”, meaning that the storyline may be partially built on a true story.

Following three friends—a nurse, an attorney and a doctor—in the 1930s, Amsterdam sees the trio meet in the Netherlands capital twenty years prior where they form a pact to protect each other “no matter what”. But what exactly do they mean? Well, this is where it gets interesting.

The film will see the three friends navigate a false accusation of murder, that forces them to find the truth behind the crime. In the whodunnit, they are led to a bevy of other A-list starts, as well as high stakes danger and drama, in what appears to alter the course of American history.

Is there a trailer for Amsterdam?

There absolutely is and it is definitely worth a watch (or two). In the almost three-minute trailer, the mystery behind the film is slowly uncovered, but of course, without giving too much away.

With a soundtrack of Ten Years Aster’s “I’d Love To Change The World”, the trailer is not only suspense-filled but rather funny. A scene in particular sees one character looking at the man who has died in front of them and is clearly upset about the situation they’ve found themselves in.

“You got a dead white man in a box! Not even a casket! Doesn’t even have a top on it,” he exclaims. Then, the group seem to be wheeling the casket out of the building and taking it who knows where. Either way, what ever is in store for the trio looks to be incredibly funny.
