Not only did Pitt and Jolie tie the knot at the AUD $92 million castle situated in the heart of Provence, it is also home to the vineyard behind their wine and Champagne label, Miraval, and was bought by the former couple in 2008.
Per multiple reports that began surfacing in November 2019, ownership of the château is just one of a number of things still being hashed out in their divorce proceedings.
And to make matters even more brow-raising, Pitt and Poturalski's sojourn to the French castle fell on what would have been his and Jolie's wedding anniversary.
At the time of the trip, a source told Us Weekly that Pitt "just doesn't care" and suspected that Jolie would "lash out".
"Taking Nicole to Miraval on their former wedding anniversary, Brad knows exactly what he is doing and the reaction it’s going to get from Angelina," a source told Us Weekly of the move at the time.
"He just doesn’t care if Angelina is going to lash out. He expects she will."
Jolie has since then made her feelings regarding Pitt and Poturalski's trip known, with a source telling The Mirror that she is "furious".
“Angie is furious and utterly stunned Brad could stoop this low," an insider said.
“She was highly hopeful they could dial down the intensity after a terrible summer of fighting, but now that’s totally off the table.
“It grosses her out that he’s cavorting around Europe so publicly with this girl, instead of keeping a private and dignified lid on his love life.
“The fact he’s apparently taken them to her marital home is just beyond tacky and inappropriate, however Brad wants to cut it.
“This will make it even harder for them to see eye-to-eye about anything and has taken them to a whole new low that nobody imagined possible.”
Pitt and Jolie's divorce has been garnering headlines since they first split in 2016, with proceedings reportedly becoming increasingly contentious.
Despite their divorce being declared in April 2019, they are part of a bifurcated judgement, which means that the details of their divorce including finances and child custody still need to be decided on.
In mid-August 2020, Jolie sought to have the judge on her and Pitt's case removed due to Pitt's lawyer's business relationship with the judge, who Pitt reportedly sought to keep.
Earlier in the year, the Maleficent actress also opened up about why she chose to separate from Pitt back in 2016.
"I separated for the well-being of my family," she said.
"I continue to focus on their healing. Some have taken advantage of my silence, and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds," she continued. "In fact, they are six very brave, very strong young people.
