Could romance be in the air for US Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and esteemed actor Bill Nighy?
When the first images from this year’s Met Gala began emerge, many fans thought so.
Wintour, 73, who oversees the exclusive Met Gala each year, typically walks the Met steps alone. This year, however, she arrived at the fashionable occasion with none other than Bill Nighy, 73, at her side.
The pair posed for photos arm in arm, with Anna wearing an elegant gown and coat from Chanel’s SS23 collection, and Nighy looking dapper in a navy suit.
However, while many fans thought it was About Time these two declare their romance, it appears that their PR teams did not get the memo.
Representatives for Wintour did not comment on the pair’s relationship, yet a source close to her told Page Six: “We think last night speaks for itself.”
Yet, a representative for Nighy told the same publication, “Bill and Anna have simply been great friends for two decades. They are not in a relationship.”
This is très confusing, we must admit.
The Met Gala is not the first time the pair has been spotted out and about together. Rumours first sparked in December 2022 when The Daily Mail reported they were getting cosy at a screening of Nighy’s most recent film, Living, in New York City.
Apparently not attempting to dispel the rumours, the pair even posed for photos at the event, with Australian actor Hugh Jackman at their sides.
Formidable editor Wintour has been married twice previously. Her first marriage was to child psychologist David Shaffer, with whom she had two children. The pair divorced in 1999, after 15 years together. Then, in 2004, Wintour married businessman Shelby Bryan.
Bryan became somewhat of a fixture at Wintour’s side all the way up until 2020, when it was announced they had split.
Nighy, on the other hand, has been single since 2008, when his nearly 30-year marriage to English actress Diana Quick came to an end.
And while neither has spoken out personally, to officially confirm or deny the romance, we can’t think of a chicer place to launch a new relationship than the Met Gala carpet. In our heart-of-hearts, we hope this romance is real.
