The golden days of soft drinks – and in particular, the behemoth that once was Coca-Cola – appear to be over. In the midst of rapidly declining sales across the category – and yesterday’s NSW government announcement that soft drinks will be banned from all hospitals and health facilities by the end of the year – Coke is making yet another attempt to boost their numbers.
In the wake of Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Coke with Stevia comes the new Coke No Sugar, the fourth sugar-free/low-sugar version of the iconic fizzy drink, news.com.au reports.
Like Diet Coke and Coke Zero before it, Coke No Sugar contains aspartame, the sweetener some studies have linked to brain cancer (for the record, other studies have found no link).
But now that it has Coke No Sugar – which the company claims tastes more like the original sugar-packed Coke than its predecessors – Coke Zero’s days are over. Coke Zero will be phased out over the coming months.
