Off the back of yesterday's exciting result in the same-sex marriage postal vote, some heartbreaking news.
A senior Australian diplomat who was celebrating Australia's 'Yes' vote for marriage equality has passed away after a drunken game of “trust” went terribly wrong in New York City.
Police have confirmed 30-year-old Julian Simpson died after falling from a seventh-floor balcony to the second floor of his apartment building on Clinton St in the Lower East Side, Newscorp, reports.
Simpson and his wife reportedly enjoyed dinner and drinks with a group of friends before they returned back home and went up to the roof to the take in the views of the Empire State Building, which was lit up in rainbow colours in celebration of Australia’s same-sex marriage vote.
Mr Simpson was Australia’s second secretary to the United Nations. The politician resides with his wife at the Lower East Side apartment building where he was tragically killed.
At this stage, Police have said the incident is being treated as an accident.
An official report from the medical examiner’s office will confirm the cause of death.
