A beautiful photo of newborn twins Mason and Hawk Buchmeyer cuddling and smiling in the ICU went viral and captured the hearts of thousands but sadly one of the boys has passed away.
“This picture was taken a 11 days after they were born,” the parents wrote alongside the heartwarming photo on Facebook.
“It’s the first time they have ever touched and as soon as Mason felt Hawk he reached out for his arm and smiled this big. We thought it was time for everyone pulling for our boy to see this picture.”
Sadly however, just days after the photo was taken, Hawk, who was diagnosed with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (a rare condition affecting the lungs), died
“Our hearts are saddened this morning as our sweet little man was called home to be with Jesus,” the family wrote on Facebook. “He went very peacefully and we know he’s no longer suffering.”
Thousands of people have expressed their sadness and have sent condolences to the family.
