Here’s Why Bec Judd’s Hair Always Looks So Good

Including what she asks for at the hairdresser

If you were to ask your nearest hairdresser which celebrities are most commonly referred to for hair inspiration, it wouldn’t surprise us to hear the name Rebecca Judd right up there with Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba and Kerry Washington

The radio host and Klorane ambassador certainly has her honey brown waves down to a fine art, whether she’s hitting the red carpet or going from gym to dinner (pre-COVID of course).

In fact, Bec Judd’s beach waves routine was so sought after, when she finally dropped the tutorial via her website, Rebecca Judd Loves, it went viral.

And now Judd has shared with marie claire the ins and outs of her entire hair routine. That’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets.

She doesn’t wash her hair every day

When it comes to the age-old debate of how often we should wash our hair, Judd sits firmly on the less is more fence, saying it’s the best tip she’s picked up from working with professionals.

“Avoid washing your hair every day,” she says. “Over-washing can strip your scalp of its natural oils.”

It’s, for this reason, she’s a big fan of dry shampoo, choosing to spritz Klorane’s new Detox Dry Shampoo with Aquatic Mint ($15.99 at Priceline) over a hair wash post-workout.

Scalp care is key

Scalp scrubs and scalp serums have become the norm on hair care shelves, and Judd says she’s found looking after hers to be just as important as taking care of her hair; “it is literally the root to beautiful, healthy and shiny hair.”

She uses a clarifying shampoo to detoxify and remove impurities, as well as product build-up (from all that dry shampoo).

Beach waves are always in

Despite that beach waves video being from 2016, Judd says she still gets requests on how she nails the style.

“It’s very simple. I don’t need hair sprays; Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk ($14.99 at Priceline) is all I use along with my hair curler to help give my hair volume and texture, while keeping it from being floppy and preventing my curls from falling out,” she tells marie claire.

She also says not much has changed in her step-by-step overall, “I use the ghd extra-wide tong ($250 at ghd.com/au) but also use their straight styling irons from time to time to achieve a relaxed wave with the flick of a wrist.”

Sleek hair is the dream

Just like many of us covet Judd’s hair, she has her own envies too. “Kim Kardashian has amazing healthy, shiny hair,” she says.

As for the one trend she’s always wanted to try? “A severe middle part, sleek, straight look but I fear my face is too long to pull it off!”

Ask for ‘bronde’

When she goes to the hairdresser, Judd says it’s all about achieving a ‘bronde’ look that’s “not too warm but not too cool either”.

She’s also one for seasonal changes; “in winter I add more chocolate foils to slightly darken it,” she says. “[And] in summer I add more blonde foils to lighten it, but the base colour remains the same.”

Like balayage, only better.
