Jessica Gomes’ Facialist Reveals The 1 Surprising Thing That Prevents Under-Eye Ageing

You need to try this

Fine lines under the eyes is one of those things you don’t really think about until that fateful first day you spot them – when suddenly, you go from being blasé about skincare to enquiring about the cost of Botox.

But as the saying goes, prevention is infinitely better than the cure. So a big thank you to renowned Sydney skin therapist Melanie Grant, who has shared her eye care secrets on her Instagram overnight.

As Grant points out, “the skin around the eye is very delicate and prone to ageing, being much finer than the skin on your face with no oil glands to help keep the skin supple.”

She recommends “applying an eye cream which is typically richer and more nourishing than your regular face cream” to help protect the delicate skin, layering an antioxidant serum underneath during the day and topping with moisturiser and SPF.

But it’s after dark that things get really interesting. First up, Grant recommends “a nourishing, restorative serum and eye cream can be layered underneath your night cream to keep the area hydrated and supple throughout the night,” but her suggestions don’t stop at skincare products.

Her genius tip? Sleeping on a silk pillowcase. According to Grant, this will “prevent creasing from sleeping on your side.” Added bonus: silk pillowslips also help regulate your hair’s oil production, so you don’t have to wash it as often. Find them at Shhh Silk, Pure Hair Food or Go-To.

Grant also recommends using an overnight eye mask once a week. She loves the Sisley Eye Contour Mask (as do we).
