Want Glowing, Healthy Skin? These Are The Ingredients You Need

Because beauty is more than skin deep

No surprises here: there’s no point blowing your entire pay packet on skincare if you spend your days eating Nutella on toast (we wish). But if it’s a lit-from-within glow you crave, the key is to boost your vitamin intake, inside and out.

Below, we’ve listed the vitamins and antioxidants that are essential for glowing, healthy skin, plus how to make sure you’re getting your daily dose.

1/ Vitamin E

One of the most extensively researched antioxidants, Vitamin E (you may see it on product ingredients lists as tocopherol) nurtures the skin, fighting free radical damage and protecting against the elements. Combined with vitamin C (see below), it forms an even more powerful complex that improves skin’s tone and texture. “Vitamin E is a highly moisturising ingredient so it’s great at keeping skin soft and nourished,” says marie claire acting beauty director Sally Hunwick.

Wear it: The COVERGIRL Vitalist Healthy Concealer is a multi-tasking makeup product infused with a vitamin antioxidant complex of E, B3 and B5 (see more on B-group Vitamins below) to energise and protect your complexion while providing creamy coverage. Double win.

Eat it: Food sources of Vitamin E include almonds, peanuts, some meat and dairy products, leafy greens and fortified cereals.

2/ Vitamin B

If you’re not familiar with the skin-beautifying effects of Vitamin B3 and B5, it’s time to get acquainted. Vitamin B3 (aka Niacinamide) may just be the hardest-working skincare ingredient in existence, fighting fine lines, pigmentation, redness, enlarged pores, dullness and even acne (did we mention we love it? We do). “Vitamin B3 is a great ingredient for skin types prone to dryness or sensitivity,” adds Sally. Combined with the moisturising properties of Vitamin B5, it’s essential for restoring your skin’s natural glow.

Wear it: Try The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum to get your Vitamin B3 fix. For both B3 and B5, try the COVERGIRL Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation to simultaneously protect and perfect the skin.

Eat it: Vitamin B3 is found in meat, fish, milk, eggs, wholegrain breads and cereals, nuts and even mushrooms. Vitamin B5 is found in meat, milk, eggs, peanuts and legumes.

3/ Vitamin C

Vitamin C deserves a place in every woman’s skincare routine (and on every woman’s plate): a powerful antioxidant, it helps to boost skin brightness and collagen production while simultaneously working to reduce inflammation and pigmentation. Even Oprah’s facialist is a fan: “I’m a huge believer in vitamins, anti-oxidants specifically, like Vitamin C,” she told marie claire recently. “What women should be doing every day is incorporating something vitamin-based in their skincare regime.”

Wear it: Try Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum.

Eat it: Find Vitamin C in citrus, kiwi fruit, blueberries, strawberries and some vegetables, including broccoli and capsicum.

The new COVERGIRL Vitalist makeup collection is infused with vitamins E, B3 and B5 to bring life back to your skin. Think of it as makeup on a health kick!
