This Cocoa Face Mask Actually Cured My Chocolate Cravings

Just in time for Easter

It was around 8pm when they started. They being my nightly sugar cravings – as those closest to me know, I imbibe chocolate every single day, without fail, and usually between the hours of 4pm to 10pm (don’t judge).

But this night was different. For one, because I’m on a self-imposed weeknight dessert ban (in case you were wondering, Fridays don’t count) and two, because I had plans to indulge in a particularly decadent face mask instead.

As anyone who eats will tell you, skincare is in no way a replacement for dessert. Ordinarily, I would agree – but that was before I had smothered my face in the Perricone MD Cocoa Moisture Mask ($116, from Mecca).

The chocolate-heavy aroma hits you as soon as you open the jar – no exaggeration, it smells good enough to eat. The formula is as rich, thick and gooey as you’d expect, sprinkled with tiny cocoa capsules.

Although it doesn’t say so on the jar, the idea is to massage the mask in until these capsules burst open to reveal dark brown cocoa, which in turn releases antioxidants direct into the skin. Whatever – I’m just loving the fact that I feel like I’ve coated my face in chocolate cake batter.

Needless to say, this face mask is rich – Perricone MD recommend combination skin types apply it only to cheeks to aid hydration. I got carried away and covered my entire face, but am happy to report no adverse affects on my oily T-zone – I was simply left with supremely soft skin.

Even better – by the time I had washed the mask off with warm water, I had zero chocolate cravings (disclaimer: this feeling did not last long).

With regular use (around two to three times a week), the Cocoa Moisture Mask is said to improve skin texture and lift, tighten and tone. Given the amount of chocolate I plan on inhaling over Easter, I should probably be smothering my whole body in the stuff.
