Does Vitamin C & Hyaluronic Acid Have A Place In Haircare?

Our favourite skincare ingredients are now going on our hair.

My highlighted hair can get dry and lank after a lot of styling and heat. So, when Canadian haircare brand AG Care came across my desk with a line-up of products that would help get my hair back to shiny and soft, I was keen to give it a try.

I was, however, a little curious about the use of skincare ingredients in hair care. Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid were regulars in my skin routine—but my hair? Colour me intrigued…

Vitamin C & Squalane Shampoo

First up, I used the Vitamin C Strengthening Shampoo. This shampoo excited me because of the added vitamin C, which is usually reserved for brightening in skincare.

There is also added plant-based squalene, another common skincare aid used for adding moisture. Brightening and moisture? I was all in.

Hyaluronic Acid Conditioner

Next was the Ultramoist Moisturising Conditioner. It’s designed for very dry hair and tackles the issue with hyaluronic acid and herbs to get parched hair back to life.

Hyaluronic acid is another key ingredient often enlisted for hydrating skin so I was excited to find out what it would do for my strands. Post conditioner, I can confirm that my hair feels silky soft and smooth.

Argan Oil

Okay, I’m no stranger to Argan oil for hair. But it can typically be used for both skin and hair.

Once I was out of the shower, I added the hair-specific product, The Oil Extra-Virgin Argan Smoothing Oil, sparingly to my ends.

Despite its richness this oil is also lightweight and non-greasy. It helped protect my blonde hair while I blow-dried, and when I was done, my hair felt soft and nourished and not at all weighed-down.

I also love a brand that gives back, and this vegan, cruelty free haircare brand is committed to making a local and global difference. Since 2008 the brand has partnered with One Girl Can, which helps girls in Kenya to achieve gender equality and make change for the good.

All-in-all, I found my hair felt soft and manageable with this ‘skincare’ hair routine. I also found it gave me back some much-needed shine.

Wins all around.
