Ryan Reynolds celebrated his 44th birthday over the weekend, and we all know what that means: Blake Lively’s annual tradition of roasting her husband.
Like us regular folks, the birthday boy was given the privilege of choosing his celebratory dessert. While most of us usually look to anything from a decadent mud cake to a nostalgic ice cream cake, Reynolds’ choice skewed to the obscure this year, asking Lively for a celebratory birthday pie—which, according to her Instagram post—he proceeded to eat prior to blowing out his candles.
Of course, Lively provided the perfect summation of the series of events (while expertly making fun of Reynolds in the process).
“1) Who is the lost soul that selects birthday PIE. 2) What ANIMAL eats their cake (pie) without first blowing out the candles,” she wrote. “@vancityreynolds that’s who. Happy Birthday. I honestly can’t believe we’re still married. “
The actress even showed fans a look at the “eco-friendly balloons” she created for her husband’s birthday, which were made out of ribbons tied around fruit, potatoes and lemons.
Lively also wasn’t the only one to use the occasion to poke fun at the birthday boy.
Australian actor Hugh Jackman also got in on the fun, sharing a throwback photo of a teenage Reynolds playing the drums.
“Happy birthday lil’ buddy”, he wrote.
Now, we wait for Reynolds’ inevitable comeback.
