Trudeau has a warm relationship with the British royals, recently spending time at Buckingham Palace's NATO Reception in December. He was even captured on camera chatting to Kate Middleton.
“The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both,” a statement from the palace said. “Whilst this email confirms the country they are taking their family time in, for security reasons we will not be releasing any further details and request that their privacy is respected.”
“The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of the Royal Family," the announcement continued. "They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son.”
Meghan and Harry's decision to eschew the entire holiday season in England is reportedly not a snub against the Queen, but rather a desire to escape the spotlight for several weeks. And, according to The Daily Mail, Her Royal Highness is actually understanding of the situation.
Meanwhile, the Queen and other members of the royal family have gone to Sandringham for the holidays. Prince Philip has been unwell and is currently staying in a hospital in London. It is still unclear whether he will make it to the country for the family's traditional Christmas celebrations.
