Elle Fanning On Her Glamorous And Surprising New Role

The star of The Great is the face of Paco Rabanne’s new fragrance FAME.

What do Bridgette Bardot, Audrey Hepburn and Elle Fanning have in common? Aside from their enviable looks (and indeed because of), they’ve all been the face of French couturier Paco Rabanne’s fragrances, with Fanning being announced as the face of their newest fragrance, FAME.

The star of The Great tells marie claire, “I got like an email one day from [the team at Paco Rabanne] telling me that they were going to be launching a new fragrance and that they had thought of me to be the face. It came with like a whole lookbook and a concept for the commercial and I got to see the bottle which is so cute!”

The brand tapped Fanning to launch the fragrance as they felt that the young American actor is the very essence of Paco Rabanne’s femininity. FAME is described as ‘Playful. Sensual. Empowered. Irresistibly Parisian. She’s an icon. She’s a star.’ As radiant, self-confident, and multifaceted as the Couturier’s iconic muses, as ultramodern today as ever. Think Jane Fonda as Barbarella. Fanning dons the brand’s iconic chainmail for the campaign and says she has long admired the design. “I’ve always been a fan of Paco Rabanne, I remember going to the mall and seeing the incredible disc dresses,” she says. “It’s such an iconic dress. I love what they are doing with the brand, it’s for the woman who wants to stand out. Their clothes are quite loud. I feel very self-confident when I wear them – the discs feel almost like an armour.”

The fragrance bottle is designed to be a playful take on a woman embodying fame, wearing the chainmail dress and cats-eye sunglasses – ‘an iconic accessory of the true star’.

“I have a little bottle here with me,” Fanning tells marie claire.  “I can smell the jasmine notes. It’s very floral and fresh.”

Paco Rabanne’s perfumer, Dora Baghriche, who originated the initial idea for the scent explains further. “With its dazzling, spicy freshness, incense embodies a truly Paco Rabanne olfactory signature,” she says. “To create a totally novel effect, I chose an explosive trio of incenses, wrapped in the addictive warmth of vanilla and sandalwood. To make it even more feminine, this creamy incense accord is brightened by a new quality of jasmine, naturally fresh and cheerful, and a delicious, colourful mango note. The result is the first contemporary incense for women, crafted with contrast and sensuality, highlighting the free and disruptive character of the Paco Rabanne woman.”
