Supermodel Adut Akech was the picture of elegance and grace, attending an exclusive race day event with Lexus for Melbourne Cup day.

The South Sudanese-Australian supermodel, who has walked for everyone from Prada to Versace and shot more editorial fashion shoots than one might possibly count, blew away the crowds in a classic blush pink gown.

The tulle dress featured a delicately boned bodice with intricate gem beading. It also offered a flared tulle accent, darting from the dress’ mini hemline. Akech paired it with a bejewelled headband and necklace, with mesh pointed-toe heels.

The model attended the event as a special guest at Landmark by Lexus, a location at cup day that was designed to take guests through an immersive journey of design, fashion and culinary triumph.

Lexus’ Chief Executive John Pappas celebrated Akech’s return to the event, which has been held for 21 years. “We are delighted to host Adut once again at Landmark by Lexus on the most significant of the Carnival race days,” Pappas said.

“Adut’s warmth and sincerity adds to the relaxed and personal feel [of the event]. It is our pleasure to welcome her back to Australia to celebrate her international modelling successes.”

The renowned supermodel also posed for a series of photos ahead of the day, wearing another breathtaking blush dress.

The design featured a strapless neckline with flared ruching details, with the hemline short on one side and cascading to a midi length on the other.

She paired the look with a cream fascinator (adorned with blush pink bow to match the dress), statement silver earrings and cream mules.

Despite her glamorous lifestyle, Akech has always appeared grounded amongst the buzzy fashion world. The model, who was born in South Sudan and forced to flee the war, spent her early years in a refugee camp in Kenya.

She recently told Business Of Fashion about her experience, saying that as she was so young she largely didn’t know what the camp was, instead focusing on playing with her cousins and friends there.

Upon moving to Australia, Akech appeared in a local fashion show, produced by her aunt. “I just fell in love instantly,” she told BOF’s podcast. “When I’m on the runway, I’m a whole different person.”

Akech took that early passion and ran with it, turning it into a successful, global career to become such a well-known and widely respected model. In 2019, she won ‘Model Of The Year’ at the British Fashion Awards in London, further cementing her place as a major force in the fashion industry. She also attended the 2023 Met Gala, dressed in a stunning black-and-white tulle ensemble to honour late Chanel designer, Karl Lagerfeld.
