If you follow even a handful of fashion influencers on Instagram, then its likely that youโve come across Anna Quanโs creations.
You know the ones: tailored shirts with artfully dramatic, oversized cuffs, and sculptural, deconstructed dresses and shirting that are favoured by everyone from Sara Donaldson of Harper and Harley to Kaitlyn Ham from Modern Legacy, Talissa Sutton of Badlands.
Yet, despite Quanโs current popularity, the designer admits that it was slow going when she first launched her label.
โWhen I first started the Anne shirt, which is our bestselling shirt, it was October 2013 and people didnโt understand it. I actually put it in one of my earlier look books and nobody saw any potential.โ
โBut I persisted. I just wanted to introduce people to something new. Now street style stalwarts like Camille Charriere and Amanda Shadforth wear it to death โ I find them both so inspiring, because they always find ways to make it their own.
Quanโs genius lies in her ability to reinvent shirting, which is why marie claire has nominated her as a Prix de marie claire finalist.
โAnna Quan is all about brave design โ by way of taking something every day and elevating it with something totally unexpected,โ she says. โTo have brave design means being able to look at everyday things and elevating them because thatโs how we live โ in the everyday.โ
Lexus is proud to support Prix de marie claire, and the Next Gen Award, which recognises and supports emerging fashion talent.
