House Of Cards Has A New Lead Character

Bye bye, Kevin Spacey

After originally announcing they were cancelling House of Cards following the allegations of sexual misconduct against its star Kevin Spacey, Netflix recently confirmed that the popular political drama will have a sixth and final season without Frank Underwood.

Instead, the next eight episodes will focus on the formidable Claire Underwood, Francis Underwood’s wife, played by Robin Wright. As a reminder, Claire Underwood finished Season 5 by winning election as the first female US President after wresting power from her husband.

Netflix has reached a compromise to resume production on House of Cards Season 6, the show’s last. “It will be an eight-episode season.

It will start production in early 2018 and it will not involve Kevin Spacey,” according to chief content officer Ted Sarandos.

“We’re really excited about bringing some closure to the show for fans,” said Sarandos, speaking Monday at UBS’s Global Media and Communications Conference in New York.

Sarandos said he was thrilled to be able to continue employing the team of 370 people who directly work on the show and for “the 2,000 people in Baltimore”, where the series is shot, who have indirect jobs working on House of Cards.

The question, though, is how writers will explain Spacey’s exit. With no air date named as yet, we’ll have to wait to find out.
