I Got A HydraFacial And It Completely Transformed My Skin

It's celebrity approved too

The beauty world has a never-ending choice of weird and wonderful skin care treatments, all with the collective aim of redefining, restoring and refreshing the body – leaving us feeling fresh and new. In that selection of wonderful treatments lies the HydraFacial, a facial treatment that is performed every 15 seconds around the world. I know!

The high-tech facial, which is the latest treatment innovation sweeping the skincare clinics, can treat all manners of skin concerns and is quickly becoming one of the most popular non-invasive treatments on the market. Given this, we had to put it to the test at Sydney’s The Clinic

For those unfamiliar, the HydraFacial is essentially a peel, microdermabrasion, and hydrating mask in one. But unlike the facials a specialist would usually perform by hand, it’s done using a medical-grade device that pulls debris out of your pores, while also moisturising and exfoliating. “The HydraFacial is a medical-grade skin resurfacing treatment suitable for all skin types,” says Kaye Scott, co-founder of The Clinic. “It combines a deep clean and exfoliation, extractions and a hydrating, antioxidant rejuvenation for instantly brighter, cleaner and clearer skin.”

The facial treatment is multi-faceted, with each process targeting a different skin concern. “The HydraFacial is performed as a multi-step treatment with the use of four different products throughout the process,” Scott explains. “First, there is a deep cleanse and exfoliation to remove dead skin cells which include Salicylic and Glycolic acid to prepare the pores. This is followed by a painless extraction of blackheads and whiteheads and the final step offers rehydration where hyaluronic, peptides and an infusion of antioxidants and essential nutrients is suctioned back into the skin for better penetration.”

Note, it’s nothing like a day spa – so don’t expect calming music accompanied by a 5-minute nap. Instead, the HydraFacial device is a huge machine with various attachments that gives off a “scratching” like feeling, while also buzzing and whizzing as it works its magic.

Personally, my skin has never been particularly acne-prone but I have significant whiteheads on my forehead that left my skin texture uneven. Days after the HydraFacial, the whiteheads that had been bothering me for years were significantly decreased. Just think of the facial as an intensive, deep clean for your pores.

And don’t be deterred by the look of the machine or process, it’s suitable for all skin types (even those with sensitive and reactive skin), with the whole treatment taking around 30 minutes. Scott assures, “Hydrafacial’s are suitable for all skin types especially those that have congestion, dead skin build-up or those looking for a deep exfoliation post-holiday or change in season and for those looking for overall brighten up pre-event.”

The best bit? There’s no downtime and it’s totally pain-free.
