You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t love Jennifer Aniston. From growing up with her on our screens as Rachel in Friends to watching her poise as her marriage to Brad Pitt publically fell apart, she’s a woman who holds a firm spot in our hearts.
But, over the years, without knowing it, we became so obsessed with Jen being happy that we totally disregarded one tiny detail: she is happy.
Yes, even though her second marriage to Justin Theroux has come to an end (the pair announced their separation in a joint statement earlier this year), and yes – shock, horror – even though she’s childless.
“The misconceptions are ‘Jen can’t keep a man,’ and ‘Jen refuses to have a baby because she’s selfish and committed to her career.’ Or that I’m sad and heartbroken,” Jen said for her cover interview with InStyle USA.
“First, with all due respect, I’m not heartbroken. And second, those are reckless assumptions.”
“No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me. They don’t know what I’ve been through medically or emotionally,” she adds, before speaking about her decision not to have children.
“There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they’re deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn’t to procreate. Maybe I have other things I’m supposed to do?”
