Even if you know next-to-nothing about her, you probably know that Jennifer Lopez is practically ageless.

While Jennifer’s youthfulness likely has to do with genetics, looking as young as possible takes plenty of work—something the mother-of-two hasn’t been coy about sharing.

Regarding her skincare routine, Lopez told People that she always takes makeup off before bed (sleeping with makeup has been proved to damage the skin and encourage wrinkles), and that she uses plenty of night cream to hydrate before sleep. She’s also professed to Well + Good that she’s a fan of facial oils, which assist in naturally plumping tired skin.

2. Sun Protection

Lopez has often noted that her skincare regimen involves very little sun, and that she’s a strict applier of SPF. Though sunshine can be good for skin, even slightly excessive sun exposure can lead to premature ageing, fine lines and sunspots.

Instead, Lopez spends plenty of time in the shade, and always applies a plentiful dose of sunscreen—telling InStyle Magazine: “I am a firm believer in SPF. I try not to stay out in the sun too long.”

3. A No-Excuses Approach To Exercise

This might come as a no-brainer to some, but Lopez doesn’t forget to credit an abundance of exercise for her glowing skin.

The performer’s workout of choice is dance—something she does most days, whether at home or for a concert—and she told People “It’s no secret that I love dancing, so it doesn’t even feel like a workout to me.”

Afterwards, Lopez is sure to squeeze in cardio and weights every day; with absolutely no excuses.

4. A Healthy Diet

As a performer, J-Lo consumes nourishing foods that sustain her health-wise, as well as benefiting her skin and physique. Speaking to Hello!, Lopez talked about how her clean-eating mantra extends to eating out at restaurants, saying “Most restaurants offer low-calorie meals, so I watch for things on the menu that fit my lifestyle. I’ll have a salad or fish with some veggies.”

A fan of natural health, Lopez completely avoids both alcohol and caffeine in her diet—telling Hollywood Life “I don’t drink, or smoke, or have caffeine. That really wrecks your skin as you get older.”

“I’m a very social person and I love spending time with friends and family, so when we go out I try to make healthy choices.”

5. Gylcolic Acid

If you aren’t familiar with the benefits of glycolic acid use for skin, now’s the time to get into it. In simple terms, it effortlessly removes dead skin cells from the surface of your face—in turn, preventing unwanted pore clogging on your face that can result in acne or spots.

Jennifer has revealed her love for glycolic acid in the past, telling People she’s a fan of the simple and affordable skincare staple.

6. Meditation and Mindfulness

When you live a life as hectic as J-Lo does, assigning time for relaxation is one of the most important things you can do for your mind and body.

J-Lo has previously talked about the benefits of meditation and mindfulness, saying she makes sure to practice in the morning and before bed. In an interview with Well + Good, she said:

“Affirmations are so important. I am youthful and timeless. I tell myself that every day, a few times a day. It sounds like such clichéd bullshit, but it’s not; age is all in your mind.”
