Julia Roberts Says Her New Rom-Com With George Clooney Will Probably Be “Terrible”

At least she's being honest.

It’s been almost 20 years since Julia Roberts tried her hand at a romantic comedy. Now, the Pretty Woman star is back on the rom-com bandwagon, and this time, it’s alongside George Clooney.

But what does Roberts think about her upcoming and highly-anticipated flick with Clooney? Well, she might have some reservations about how successful it will be.

In an interview with Variety at the Cannes Film Festival, Roberts revealed that she believes her on-screen reunion with Clooney for their film, Ticket To Paradise, has “too much potential to be great”.

“I think it’s so funny and George is so funny, and George and I together, it’s probably going to be terrible because there’s too much potential for it to be great, it’ll just implode on itself,” she joked.

“I think that should be the commercial for the movie: ‘It’s probably going to be terrible’. I’m so glad that my publicist is on a plane right now,” she said.

As for the flick in discussion, Ticket To Paradise will see Roberts and Clooney star as a “divorced couple that teams up and travels to Bali to stop their daughter from making the same mistake they think they made 25 years ago”.

The film will also star Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever as their daughter, who they are trying to stop marrying a person that she “just met”.

And if the plot hasn’t won you over, then perhaps the knowledge that the pair spent ample time in Australia to film the movie will.

In a previous interview with The New York Times, Roberts explained that she would only take part in the film if it was opposite Clooney.

“Lo and behold, George felt it only worked with me,” she revealed, adding, “Somehow we were both able to do it, and off we went”.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Roberts and Clooney have shared the screen together. In fact, they’ve co-starred in four movies with one another: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Eleven and Money Monster.

Despite this, the pair have never worked in a romantic comedy together—until now. Ticket to Paradise is set to hit cinemas in October 2022, so now is a great time to mark your calendars.

Whether Roberts likes it or not, you can bet that we’re excited to see what’s in store between the two.
