We Just Discovered Kate Middleton’s Secret Weapon To Killer Style

It’s her foolproof trick to perfect outfits

There’s no denying Kate Middleton looks wonderful in everything she puts on. Whether it’s the signature Alexander McQueen coat dress which she owns in all manner of shades, a special occasion black tie dress, or just a casual jeans and T-shirt, the Duchess of Cambridge knows exactly what works for her body. But what’s her secret weapon?

Anyone who follows Middleton’s style carefully (ahem, us) will know she’s akin to certain designers, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and Emilia Wickstead included, but it’s the addition of a private dressmaker that really allows the royal to look picture-perfect at all times.

Middleton has her own dressmaker and seamstress on call, not only so that all of Middleton’s designer garments are perfectly fitted, but so she can get custom styles created on a whim. Genius, right?

Debuting a new look this week, Middleton has proven yet again what some great tailoring can do for a figure, stepping out in a pale blue dress to attend a family event at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. Complete with a row of buttons at the front, a high neck and puffy sleeves, the cut, colour and fit of the dress was perfectly formed to the Duchess’s body. The designer? Her dressmaker, of course.

It isn’t the first time the royal has worn custom pieces by her dressmaker. The Duchess donned a peach dress in 2013, apparently designed by the dressmaker.

In 2014, during the Duke and Duchess’s tour of Australia and New Zealand, Kate opted for a primrose yellow summer dress for a visit to Taronga Zoo, made by her dressmaker.

So who is the mystery dressmaker? Whispers have rumoured it to be Angela Kelly, the Queen’s longtime personal assistant and dressmaker, who famously makes the monarch’s iconic skirt suits. According to The Telegraph, the Queen offered Kelly’s services to Kate before her first royal tour in 2014, so it does make sense that she’s still creating the odd piece here and there.

As for the rest of us, who can’t quite afford a personal seamstress? Find a great tailor and never give them up! A little tweaking here and there can turn a $30 pair of pants into a designer item — trust us.
