Kate Middleton is out here to remind us just who the future Queen of England is. The Duchess of Cambridge stunned in an Alexander McQueen gown and tiara for the formal occasion, which the Queen is hosting in honour of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
Kate accessorised with diamond and sapphire fringe earrings, which previously belonged to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. She also wore a sash for the Royal Victorian Order, to which she was appointed in April, over her dress.
The sash signifies her appointment as a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO), the highest ranking of chivalry which the queen personally awards in gratitude for service to the sovereign. The Queen rewarded Kate with the honour on her eighth wedding anniversary.
She arrived with Prince William, joining other royal guests like Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at the celebration. Her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, did not attend the event because she's on maternity leave. Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump were also in attendance. Ivanka sat next to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and her husband, Jared Kushner, was with Princess Anne for the dinner.
The Queen gave a speech during the evening, as did the US President.
“As we face the new challenges of the 21st century, the anniversary of D-Day reminds us of all that our countries have achieved together,” the Queen said, per People. “After the shared sacrifices of the Second World War, Britain and the United States worked with other allies to build an assembly of international institutions, to ensure that the horrors of conflict would never be repeated. While the world has changed, we are forever mindful of the original purpose of these structures: nations working together to safeguard a hard-won peace.”
President Trump's UK state visit will end on June 5.
